One of the questions that people asked us the most about our trip to Boston was "Did you go to the Cheers Bar?". It is one of the must-see attractions when you are visiting Boston, and what a treat it was to visit on a beautiful summer day. A link to their website can be found here. Including this entry I have four more entries to post for our Boston trip. Can you believe that? Someone asked me if we were gone for a week and I said that it was a four day trip and we had seven plates of nachos. We are that hardcore! You know what else? Last week I went for a run at 3:45am. Running in the wee hours is kind of hardcore...or maybe crazy? Let's get to the Cheers nachos.
Cheers Nachos Grande (chili): June 2024 |
Distribution of Toppings
The distribution of toppings was about average. There seemed to be too many toppings for the amount of chips that were provided.
Quality
This was the first plate of nachos that we had on our trip that did not have queso! These nachos had a traditional cheese blend. They were chili nachos and they were spicy with plenty of beans in the chili as well as hot peppers. However, some of the chips got a little soggy from the chili. The salsa was nice and spicy and the toast factor was mid. The nachos a good dose of personality thanks to the tasty chili and unique salsa, and the atmosphere was excellent. The taste was above average.
Quantity
These nachos were good to share as a big snack.
Value
The Nachos Grande are $15.99. If you add chili it is $3.99. If you add buffalo chicken it is $7.99 extra. If you add guacamole, it is $1.50 extra. These prices are all in USD and if you convert to CAD in August of 2024 our nachos would come to a total of $29.48. That is really good considering the distribution of toppings, quality and quantity and that it is the Cheers Bar in a touristy part of Boston.
Service
The Cheers Bar was packed the first weekend of summer but the service was excellent. The server filled our drinks as soon as they were starting to get low and the nachos came out pretty quickly.
Conclusion
We bought a Cheers mug from the Cheers Bar and now it's in regular rotation at home. As soon as it is washed, it is used. That is probably our favorite mug to have our beer in. It was refreshing to have a plate of nachos with traditional cheese on them and it was such a treat to be able to do our nacho research at the Cheers Bar. I might have been too young to enjoy the show when Cheers was popular on TV but I really appreciated my visit! With all the factors considered they have about the same grade as the other places we visited on our trip, but I think I will remember this place for a long time... and that really means something.
