Miguel's Mexican Restaurant: Bangor ME

On our way back home from Boston, we had to stop to get nachos one more time. It's like the last hurrah of a vacation before you get home. And then once you get home, the Edmonton Oilers lose in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. I remember chatting with a friend at the time, telling her that it was okay that Florida had a powerplay because no one had scored on Edmonton on the power play in a long time. Soon after, I heard the announcer say "and with that, Florida scored on their powerplay against Edmonton." As it stands in 2024, a Canadian team has not won the Stanley Cup since our Habs in 1993. What will the future bring?

So for the last hurrah of this vacation, we stopped at Miguel's in Bangor and had some nachos. This was after we had the excellent Guy Fieri nachos. It was a tough act to follow, but what can you do?

Miguel's Beef Nachos - June 2024

Distribution of Toppings

The distribution of toppings was pretty good, although there wasn't much in the way of layers, so it was easy to have good distribution.

Quality

This was yet another plate of nachos we've been served in the USA that did not have a traditional cheese blend and had just queso instead. There was plenty of queso and dips for the nachos. We also received some chips and salsa as an appetizer before the nachos came out so we used those extra chips to scoop up the leftover toppings. There was no toast factor on these nachos, as is common with these queso-only style nachos. The nachos were cooked through and were well presented with a great selection of unique hot sauces on the table, and a taste that stood out.

Quantity

Since we were basically never hungry on this trip, it was enough to share as a meal. However, under regular circumstances, when you're not on a feeding-frenzy / vacation, it's probably best to order another appetizer alongside if you're sharing as a meal.

Value

Miguel's nachos are $14. If you add beef, chorizo, chicken, or sautéed vegetables, it is $4 extra, all in USD. If you convert it to Canadian in August 2024 they are $24.71 CAD. I think the price is fair considering fun atmosphere of this place, great taste, and the overall quality.

Conclusion

I was glad to be able to have these great nachos before Edmonton lost in the Stanley Cup Final. It was like the sequel to the 49ers losing in the Super Bowl. These nachos were not as good as Guy Fieri's, but they hit the spot for a quick supper on the way home. We'll visit them again when we're back in Bangor.
