Azteca Mexican Restaurant opened its doors November 10, 2023 in downtown Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. We like to go to PEI once or twice per year and there are always some good opportunities to do nacho research. Sometimes we get nachos and they are disappointing, but there are other times where it's like we struck gold and this was one of those times.  Azteca Beef Nachos - December 2024 Azteca Beef Nachos - December 2024 Distribution of Toppings The distribution of toppings was pretty good, and these were almost like a single layer nacho with the steak heaped on top. Quality There was plenty of gooey cheese on top of these nachos. There was also a lot of crema topped with tender and delicious steak. The refried pinto beans really hit the spot and they even had some pico de gallo which always complements everything. The chips were like the chips I've had in Mexico and they were thick and crunchy. What a delight to have another Mexican restaurant in Uptown Saint John after the sad departure of Taco Pica back in 2020. You can follow them on instagram @ abuelitas_restaurant . Abuelita's opened its doors in the fall of 2024, and it was only a matter of time before I journeyed over there to have their nachos. The owner of Abuelita's is also the owner of El Patron food truck and the word "abuelita" refers to his mother. I must admit that it is hard to review a new business (as I write this entry, they have been open for a few months), because this entry will be similar to my Casa Latina entry. I really love and appreciate that there are more latin options in Saint John, but I really think I should be ordering something other than nachos at these places.
