Azteca Mexican Restaurant opened its doors November 10, 2023 in downtown Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. We like to go to PEI once or twice per year and there are always some good opportunities to do nacho research. Sometimes we get nachos and they are disappointing, but there are other times where it's like we struck gold and this was one of those times.

Distribution of Toppings
The distribution of toppings was pretty good, and these were almost like a single layer nacho with the steak heaped on top.
Quality
There was plenty of gooey cheese on top of these nachos. There was also a lot of crema topped with tender and delicious steak. The refried pinto beans really hit the spot and they even had some pico de gallo which always complements everything. The chips were like the chips I've had in Mexico and they were thick and crunchy. The quality of these nachos was solid. The chip-cheese ratio was spot-on and they were nicely cooked through.
Quantity
It is good for one person as a meal or to share with others as a snack. I have found with the Mexican restaurants that I have been going to (Abuelita's, Casa Latina), they give small portions when it comes to nachos.
Value
The nachos are $15 and if you add meat it is $4 extra. This is an amazing value and other restaurants should look at this example of high quality and excellent value.
Service
I liked how the server took the time to explain what kind of refried beans they were even though it was the Christmas season and the restaurant was full. The service was fast and friendly - everything came out quickly with top-notch quality.
Conclusion
Although the portion size was small, this was a really great plate of nachos. It really hit the spot with the quality, value, and service. This restaurant has a lively and cozy atmosphere and was decorated in an authentic way that seemed to transport me from snowy Charlottetown all the way to Mérida. I would love to go back and get a whole plate to myself and really spend some time taking in the taste. It definitely exceeded my expectations and I cannot wait to go back!
